The Republic of Belarus is a country with a great economic, historical and cultural potential. It is situated in the central part of Europe. The country’s area is 207,6 thousand sq.km. In the west the country borders on Poland, in the north-west – on Lithuania, in the north – on Latvia and Russia, in the north-east and east – on Russia, in the south – Ukraine. Belarus consists of 6 oblasts and more than 100 towns.
The capital of Belarus is Minsk (its population is about 2 million people). Belarusian climate is moderately continental, with mild winters, warm summers and damp autumns. The Republic of Belarus is a unitary democratic socially-oriented country. Russian and Belarusian are the official languages, the monetary unit – the Belarusian ruble. Such Belarusian brands as MAZ and BelAZ, MTZ and BMZ, Horizont, Vityaz, Atlant, Integral, etc., are well known in the world.
Among the Belarusian sights which are worth visiting, one should mention Mir and Nesvizh castles, the Museum of Marc Chagall, the memorial complex Khatyn, the Brest fortress, Krevo Castle (ruins), the Mount of Glory and many others.
Belarus has about 11, 5 thousand cultural institutions, 133 museums among them. The new building of the National Library in Minsk is the subject of national pride. In Belarus there are many restaurants, cafés and bars where one can try tasty and inexpensive dishes of Belarusian national cuisine.
There are 24 thousand sports organizations in Belarus. The republican ski resorts Silichi and Logoisk have become subjects of national pride.
Belarusian hotels, camping sites and recreation centers are glossed to suit the European standards. The state healthcare system relies on budgetary financing, the principles of social justice and affordability of medical aid for all strata of the society.
The social stability of the Belarusian society, absence of religious and national confrontation, diverse and reach cultural life based on the strong national economy, scientific, industrial and human potential of our country are the pledge of the of the confident progress of Belarus towards future prosperity.
