Minsk is a capital of the Republic of Belarus, its largest administrative, cultural and scientific center with the population about 2 million people.
Geographically Minsk is situated in the heart of the republic. Minsk is a city with an ancient history. It was first mentioned in the chronicles in 1067. In 1974 Minsk was awarded the title of Hero City for its fight with fascism during World War II.
There are three historical zones in the city: the zone of old or upper town, where partially city planning and building of XVII – the beginning of XIX century have survived; the zone of Troitsky and Rakovsky surburb. The site of the old Minsk castle is an archeological preserve.
Minsk has developed industrial, scientific, transport, management and finance infrastructure. The city’s core industries are machine-building, electronics, textile, construction and food industries. 300 enterprises operate in the city. Minsk is an important center of science and technology.
There work 164 scientific-research institutions, including the National Academy of Sciences. The capital houses 34 higher educational institutions, 139 libraries. The new building of the National Library in Minsk is the subject of national pride. The restaurant “Megapolis” of RUE PSHC "Oktyabrsky" is situated right here.
The capital boasts 16 museums, including the National Arts Museum, the Museum of History and Culture of Belarus, the Museum of History of Great Patriotic War, which are situated at a short distance from the hotel “Oktyabrskaya”.
Convenient location of the hotel “Oktyabrskaya” gives you a great possibility to visit the stadium “Dinamo”, the State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre, the central department store “GUM”, the circus, the republican exhibition centre, the post-office, without spending much time for the trip.
Those who have visited Minsk for the first time are impressed by the thought-out system of planting of greenery. Parks, boulevards, reservoirs are real lungs of the city, wonderful places for rest, enjoyment and inspiration. The Central Botanical Garden which is a peculiar museum of plants from all over the world enjoys great popularity among Minskers and capital’s visitors.
It’s a pleasure to spend free time in the parks of Minsk, the oldest of which is Central Children’s Gorky Park which houses an indoor skating rink, attractions, a game-machines hall, a planetarium. The park is situated not far from the complex “Oktyabrsky“.
